Jesilyn + Kyle chose to have most of their engagement photos taken at the gorgeous Stone Barn at Blueberry Hill event venue in Oklahoma City. It was the most perfect day, right at that crisp beginning of fall. We explored the beautiful Blueberry Hill while listening to their favorite music, some Shania Twain and Turnpike Troubadours. (Also, spoiler alert: these two can seriously two-step.) Then we drove over to downtown OKC to a favorite rooftop to catch the last golden rays of sun.
Usually my clients come to me a bit uncertain about their engagement session, asking for advice and help with planning. But Kendi + Denzel knew exactly what they wanted. We sat down over coffee and they told me all about their ideas. They were looking for something different. They were over what was traditional. They wanted modern, funky, bold, and unique.
A few weeks ago Holly secretly texted me wanting to set up a surprise photoshoot for her and Kaleb on their 6-month anniversary. Adorable, right?? WELL, around that same time, Kaleb also secretly texted me saying he was planning to propose to Holly in the next couple months and could I photograph it. OH HECK YES.
I think everyone involved was overwhelmed with happiness to see this day finally come together. Hosted at the stunning Holloway House in the heart of Oklahoma City, I don't know if I've ever seen a wedding day that was so intentional, so focused on the marriage, so defiant of tradition and instead so beautifully reflective of the couple's unique personalities. Rachael + Preston decided against having a bridal party, got ready together the morning of, and had a private foot-washing ceremony an hour before their guests arrived. The emotion of this day was breathtakingly tangible. You felt it in the air, you heard it in their voices, you saw it on their faces.
Your wedding venue is one of the biggest decisions in planning your day, and deciding on the right place can be overwhelming. It's not just about what's popular or cheap; it's about finding that one location that perfectly defines who you are as a couple and sets the mood for your wedding day.
If you're venue-shopping and need some ideas or recommendations, I've compiled this list of my favorite wedding venues in Oklahoma, at least of the ones I've discovered so far...
Abigail + Dillon's wedding might win the prize for most unique wedding I've yet to photograph. Pizza, donuts, + pie for a reception feast, a gold wedding dress, vintage decor and personalized details, velvet bridesmaids dresses, a burgundy tux for the groom, peacock chairs and greenery galore. It was like a dream. I could not have imagined a more beautiful occasion!
